Volunteer – Frenk, Albania

Volunteering with Steps of Change helped me connect to people so similar yet so different from me. The program revolves around your availability and it is structured to help you connect to the students through the creative lessons you teach. These students that you meet eventually become your friends. Friends that even after you stop being their teacher, you will find yourself liking their Instagram stories or wishing Happy Birthday to one another.
As a teacher, it was very fulfilling to see the improvement of my students, which made all the hard work worth it. Working with students in conflict zones, I learned to maintain a positive attitude and see things through an optimistic lens. It was inspiring to see the discipline and dedication these young adults brought to each class. And to this day, I look back on that experience with a lot of pride and happiness. Overall, it was a rewarding experience that taught me so much about myself and others.
